Stealth 240 handle Q6600 + 8800GTX?

I've seen the question asked a hundred times.

"I want to expand my loop. Do I need a bigger Radiator than my 240?"

The "safe" answer has almost always been "yes".
If your looking for the lowest possible temps then the answer is always yes.
If your wondering if a 240 can successfully support an OC'd Q6600 and OC'd 8800GTX. Then the answer to that question is also yes....actually, better than I thought.

So here it is....the test setup...
Q6600 @ 2.7GHz (slight overclock) vid 1.3125 **Need a new mobo to go higher**
D-Tek Fuzion (no mods), D5 vario pump, GT Stealth 240, MCRES
Scythe S-flex (SFF21F)fans with shroud
TIM-Consultants, T-C Grease 0098
Feser1 (orange)
DangerDen 8800GTX full coverage block (added after the first test)

CPU temps recorded with CoreTemp while running prime95 small fft. The same was done after the GTX was added to the loop while running the artifact test of ATITool.

Ambient air temp for both tests was 26.6C

Baseline temps: (Before adding the GTX in the loop)
Q6600
IdleLoad
3849
3849
3445
3245

Idle avg: 35.5
Load avg: 47

New temps: (Q6600+8800GTX OC'd to 630/1420/1000)

Q6600
IdleLoad
4054
4054
3749
3548

Idle avg: 38
Load avg: 51.25
Highest recorded GPU temp was 53

My conclusion is pretty good. The temps went up of course but not a whole lot. The end result were temps slightly lower to an earlier test of mine in a CPU only loop with no shroud for the fans.

So, can it handle it? Although these may not be everyones ideal temps, yes, it can handle it. If your looking to max the OC on the Q6600, maybe not. I need a new mobo to test that question. I'm looking at the DFI's, we'll see......

Wow, great testing. I'm pretty impressed with the results. Does the 9800GTX have similar heat dump to the 8800GTX? Or is it more? Great testing, I've always wondered this. REP+

Well, I have a few points to make.

1) How long did the test run? Water cooling loops need time to reach full load temp as, eventually, the coolant, rad, blocks all need to heat up to a certain extant. I usually get a 5C or so increase from the first few hous to the last few if I run for 12 hours or so.

2) Overclocking. While these results are nice, it really needs to be done with a high OC on both as that is what most people want when water cooling.

I ran an E2140 and a 2900Pro on a 240 rad and it did great. the temps weren't that good as far as water cooling goes, but the cooler on the pro was very, very loud and it was still on par with good air cooling. I think a high OC on a Q and GFX card would be too much. Still, good job and i am curious to see the results with a nice OC.

sorry dralb....some clarification....the tests were run for 30mins before recording temps. 12hours ehh ....I understand your point, I'm not going to revert to the original test config but can do the current setup.

I would have done a high OC on the CPU if I could have.....as stated in the op I need a new mobo to go higher on the cpu. The GTX was as high as I could get it. I'm workin on gettin a new mobo.

Well we'll see how it goes with a Q6600 @ 3.2ghz(wont go higher) and wutever i can push a G80 8800GTS 640mb card to on a 240stealth. My EK full cover block comes in next week. hopefully i can get it up and running by next weekend to make a conclusion for u.

9800 GTX has a good bit lower power consumption.

what cpu stress test did you do? temps look very good actually. You should OC your processor a bit more though (3.4 is easy)

FYI, I've started a long-term test. Basically a repeat of the last test only MUCH longer time frame.

To make it really accurate, sprinkle some dust, dirt and cat hair in front of the rad to simulate it sitting on the floor for 2 months, lol.

I am curious to see how much the temps go up. in general, one of the advantages of a larger rad is more coolant, but I don't think that makes that much of an impact.
