Ummm, it isn't called anything. No, your mobo has different channels so you can run as many drives as there are channels on the mobo. If all the channels are full, you can get a card to add more. Each SATA port is one channel and each IDE supports 2.

If you are talking about RAID, thats a different story. You could RAID those 2 drives, but it would be a complete waste of the raptors speed and the 500gb capacity. Many people run multiple hdds. I have 2 80gb on my man and a 400gb and 500gb on a server for storage.

OK, master and slave is for IDE. Since you can run 2 devices per IDE channel, you need to set one to master and the other to slave. (or, you can set them both to cable select, but I don't think that works for every device)

SATA drives are different. Each SATA channel is its own. You can use one device per SATA channel. You can use as many as there are SATA ports on you mobo.

Not many mobo's come with more than one IDE plug any more. If you have an IDE oprtical drive and a hdd, it is recommended to run the hdd as master and the optical as slave. The same goes for the system drive and any back-up drives you have. Since each SATA plug is its own channel, there is no need to set drives up as master, slave or cable select.
