Rocketfish Pictorial

Thread Starter
I got my Rocketfish yesterday, I went right to disassembling it, and I took tons of pictures for you guys who may be wanting to take it apart too. Here it goes.

The box is colorful, and from the outside, the packaging looks solid.

Inside, a foam clamshell protects the case, in addition to a plastic bag. I would have like a cloth bag with the plastic bag for scratch protection, but the plastic bag did a good job alone.

First glimpse at a rocketfish. Notice how deep the black paint is.

Back panel. Everything is help together with thumbscrews, which makes for easy removal of side panels and the graphics card air extractor (middle right vents). There is only one single 120mm fan, but there is plenty of ventilation through the expansion slots and on the top of the case.

The guts. This thing houses 6 (six) 5-1/2 external drive bays, 2 (two) external 3.25 drive bays, and the supplied hard drive cages can fit 3 hard drives each, for a total of 6.

The hard drive bays look like they are riveted at first look, but they are screwed from the underside. Removal is as easy as popping off the screws.

The expansion slot vent thingy covers all the slots. Good for hepling the stock cooling on single slot cards do it's job, not good for showing off your full cover waterblocks. I prefer without.

All the accessories come in seperate bags. I've never seen screws packed so cleanly, nice job Lian Li.

To give you an idea how big this thing is, what you are seeing at the bottom of the pictures is a 24 inch ruler. According to the latter, this case is a full 24 inches long.

For the height, it's a about 23 inches. Did I mention this case is big?

Front 120mm is filtered, the filter can easily be removed by pulling the entire metal assembly upwards.

Next step is disassembly of the chassis. This involves de-riveting the whole thing, and I'm not doing that until I've have pratice on my other case. The rivets look countersunk... not sure though.

I'll be posting the rest later.

In the name of painting properly. Let me explain.

My sig rig is currently in the chassis of the rocketfish, all panels removed. and my sig rig is currently getting painted. However, I want an uber pro paint job, and for those hard to reach places, you just have to derivet, I remember CD doing it for the Cosmos he built. Deriveted isn't that hard if you have the proper drill bits, and it yeilds incredible results.

Good job on the pictures, very detailed.

And good idea Deriviting before paint, will make things alot easier,i derivited the 5.25 drive bay thing so i can take out the divider, wasnt to hard, just used a dermel and drill bit.

Now i want to derivit the Mobo tray so i can make some holes for wire management.

question, what size fan fits inside three 5.25 drive bays, something close to 130mm??
