Chozart's plans

Thread Starter
Ok, after several weeks of rampaging the 'for sale' threads, it's time to reveal some of my plans. Effectively, I am starting a folding farm.

Let's start with what I collected here on OCN:
  • 4GB (4x1GB) DDR2 800 OCZ Platinum Revision-2
  • E6750
  • Gigabyte Wireless card Model GN-WPKG
  • PNY Verto GeForce 8400GS 256mb
  • Intel Celeron D 356
  • ASUS P5N32-E SLI
  • Gigabyte P35 DS3L
  • Tuniq Tower
Purchased elsewhere:
  • eVGA 8800GTS 640MB Superclocked (used; cheap!)
  • Corsair HX520 PSU (new, under $100 shipped at buy.com)
Items 'under construction' at Cyberdruid's lair:
  • Customized Cosmos 1000 with watercooling.

Thus, after everything is here, I'll have two rigs up and running and a third one in progress.

Gaming rig:
  • CPU: E6750
  • Motherboard: P5N32-E SLI
  • RAM: 4x2GB Mushkin (this is budget stuff, but actually overclocks beyond DDR2 900 speeds. Will be replaced soonish though).
  • GPUs: 2x 8800GTS 640MB in SLI
  • Hard drives: 2x 74GB Raptor in RAID0
  • PSU: My trusty Silverstone Zeus 750W
  • Case: Cosmos 1000 customized by Cyberdruid
  • Cooling: Custom water by Cyberdruid (CPU + Northbridge. Watercooling for GPUs will be added later as a separate loop.)
Folding rig #1
  • CPU: E6750
  • Motherboard: P5K Deluxe
  • RAM: 2x1GB DDR2 800 OCZ Platinum Rev.2
  • GPU: 8400GS
  • Hard drive: 250GB Western Digital KS
  • PSU: Corsair HX520
  • Case: Antec P180
  • Cooling: Tuniq Tower
Folding rig #2:
  • CPU: Celeron D 356 (pending Quad, which will come soon)
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte P35 DS3L
  • RAM: 2x1GB DDR2 800 OCZ Platinum Rev.2
  • GPU: 7600GT
  • Hard drive: 250GB Western Digital KS
  • PSU: Corsair HX520 (pending. Could be something else cheap but good)
  • Case: I need no stinkin' case for this one (will probably end up being a tech station)
  • Cooling: Tuniq Tower

After this, I'll only have a couple of kits of RAM left (a Crucial kit that has to go back to RMA, and a G.Skill DDR2 667 kit for testing/booting issues). After I get the Quad, the Celly will retire to testing/BIOS flashing purposes. Future plans do involve a Phenom for a third folding rig (hey, gotta try it... and maybe by the time I get to it, AMD has ironed out some more issues with it).

Are you moving to native Linux on both folding rigs as well or still VMware?

The folding rigs will be native Linux. The gaming rig will be 64-bit Vista.

Effectively, the only rig that's currently up and running is Folding rig #1 (although with the PSU and RAM of the Gaming rig). With my E6750 at 3.69GHz (and a little more headroom to squeeze.. when I get to it), I am just a hair over 10 mins per % for the 1760 points WUs

Once you get a quad in that farm, you could possibly come close to 10,000 ppd.

nay.. got a whole lot of catching up to do with the top folders

it actually started 'accidently' when I ran into good deals here... the total cost of all those parts I bought here on OCN is $425, which isn't bad for two motherboards, 1 and a half CPU (), 4GB of pretty nice RAM, and the other bits...

wire: I think a little lower, but close. he E6750's should hit around 2400 points each, and the Quad...mmmm don't think I can get 5k out of it

But when I add another rig, then for sure I'll be able to hit 10k

Sanad: yep. I'll be drooling all over that Cosmos.
