I paid $149 for my copy. If you can't shell out that much for an OS...

...then enjoy playing in DX9 forever I guess.

If this is true, there was something seriously wrong with your installation!

Everyone that wanted to move onto Vista has done so. Let those that dont want to switch to Vista be. There is no reason to move yet in their opinion (and that is all that matters), so there is no point calling them idiots etc...

Why do people keep comparing memory usage and performance from vista to that of XP? Look at when XP came out. It was a failure. But with updates, it was fixed. Also look at how much power the computers back then had compared to today. Totally different. Now look at when Vista came out. A few switch over problems, but most of the driver/software support was the Driver/Software Devs fault, not Vista's. Each new OS release is designed for the newer parts out there. The whole memory thing is totally bogus. Vista uses more memory. Period. You need more memory then. Get over it. If you play games, you know you need more memory. "oh, i don't want to change from 1GB to 2GB just so i can blah blah blah blah." Get over it. You need to upgrade at least every 2-3 years. That's a fact of life. (look at how the software and games have developed. The requirements become greater each release. Now who's forcing you to upgrade there just to use their software?)

I just bought a laptop with 2Gbytes of RAM. Vista is sllllllllllllllllllloooooooooowwwwwww. How do I know. I installed Ubuntu 8.04 (duel boot) and it runs using 256Mb of ram to do the same thing that Vista reports doing with 750Mb, that is to just sit and look pretty.

Vista is a memory hog. Memory hog. And don't get me started with the benefits of superfetch cause I aint buyin that it's makin Vista memory management run efficient. I was using vista and had 2 pdf documents open, 2 wordpad documents open, 1 explorer open and 1 firefox web browser open....80% memory usage; 1.6Gbyte for that ... are you fkg joking? Bloat...total bloat.
comparing Windows to linux is like comparing a moped to a Ferrari. There is no comparison as the way they are developed is just way too different. Also this dude needs to learn how to monitor what is running in the background.

Uhh, no?

In COD4, in XP, with Whatever settings I use. I get 50+ FPS
In COD4, in Vista, with same settings as XP, I get usually below 50 FPS, and sometimes about 50 FPS.

Vista uses way more resources than XP

This was with a Clean Install of Vista.

As soon as Vista is as good as XP right now, I will switch.

No I'm not kidding. If I can find the article I'll post it. But actually lots of software companies refuse to use vista. Not sure if it's fact or rumor but I hear an XP service pack 3 is supposedly coming out.
This idiot has just heard about SP3? Today? I have installed it on no less than 30 computers already.

Just goes to show where these guys are in terms of computer knowledge. Why are you reading this dribble anyway? Any self-respecting overclocker would simply get on there and flame away!

I can shell that much out for an OS but not for an OS that has no great improvements over the one I'm currently on.

Ok I will. Please show me the great difference between DX9 and DX10.

People forget how XP sucked until SP2 came out. Windows 2000 and ME were utter garbage. Vista is actually pretty good compared to some other releases.

I meant no harm in my coment.

But "50+ FPS" compared to "below 50 FPS" does not constitute less then half. Your comment was that, "performance was less then half!" I was picturing your FPS going from 50 FPS in XP, to below 25 FPS in Vista. This isnt even close to what your results where... I took you for your word, which would mean you had a bad installation of the OS or the video card.

I've been using Vista for 2 months all I can say is .............meh
Vista is NOT worth the $300 I payed for it. It has some nice new features like the sidepanel, transparency, windows dont freeze as much as xp, pre-installed drivers for devices, readyboost, and faster booting. BUT all I can say is that it tends to eat RAM and what the heck was Windows doing for the +4 years it spent developing it!! I am very very disapointed by the lack of improvement i was expecting.

So to sum it up, it's not worth it's damn heavy price tag, not big enough improvements, annoying things like UAC and file indexing must be manually shut down, and LACK OF ORIGINALITY on it's improvements. Sidepanel's been done a long time ago..
