[FudZ] How Intel did the overclock lock on LGA1160 - Page 5

If you read that other thread that was linked above to another forum you can read responses from someone who works at intel.

Basicially he is saying that the high end cpu's will still overclock, they will have better memory controllers(3 channel) and other toys, they should come in around $400 to start and go up. They are saying the basic cpu's will be locked, not because intel doesn't want overclocking but because its a side effect of the cheap cpu's. The cheap cpu's account for 98% of intel's business but as a way not to forget the enthusiast they have made a line just for them.

I am sure this also lets them account for the cost of burnt up cpu's that are rma'ed. I understand why people are mad(no more $60 e2180's that do 3ghz, or e8400's for $170 that do 4ghz). I think this is a wait and see deal.

Sure we knew, but would you expect it after so many years of being able to OC w/e CPU you lay your hands on? Then to suddenly lock off OC'in for all except the most expensive enthusiast CPU's, it's BS.

So don't act so surprised when you see people get disappointed, and slightly angered by it.

I'm not surprised. I just know the backlash that's going to come from this. I mean it's bad enough that we're, the US, in a recession but now you Intel users are going to have to pay out the ass to get a decent chip. On a positive note though, AMD rocks

For your sakes, I hope that their "enthusiast" chip line starts around $300. Anything more than that is just bs IMO.

I will wait for a official announcement from Intel before i give a **** about this.
If Nehalem beats a super overclocked AMD il go Intel.
If it's the other way around il go AMD.

Geez guys , 5 pages of hate cause of some news.
give the product some time , w8 to see what will Intel actually offers.
In the end , Intel will be offering a competitive product , which will have a similar price/speed ratio compared to the high-end proceesors we familiar with now.
and thats all that matters.

I'm not paying $400 for a CPU plus $200 for a motherboard so I can overclock. The original point of overclocking was not an epeen contest, it was the ability to get more for your money.

Big companies seem to have little problem with screwing over their most loyal consumers if they don't see a big enough check from them.

But, when Intel does do this, I'm sure someone will find a hole to get around it.
