No crosshair in STALKER and other questions

First is there no crosshair? There is one when I hold the bolt(What is the bolt and what so I do with it?)

Next is there a good guide for the basics of this game? I got it with my board and there's nothing but the disc. I don't know what many of the symbols are, like what are the green crossed knife and fork every once in a while? I looked at a few walkthroughs at gamefaqs.com and gamestop, but these questions aren't addressed.

the fork and knife mean you need to eat food. The radiation symbol means your exposed to radiation, and it changes color (green - orange - red) you r being exposed to more.

I think the crosshair setting is in the options menu, or a console command

The bolt you can throw towards enemies to get their attention and make them walk toward you, its for ambushes and stealth.

Whats with the bad graphics... Looks a bit like CS. You have the settings on low?

By the looks of his system, I believe he has it on Full.

It doesn't look that good near buildings, it looks really good outside, and in the tunnels with the monsters and stuff.

Actually the settings are on high. I pointed it at a blank wall so you can see there's no crosshair.

I think it looks pretty good.
I have the crosshair set to enable in the options menu, that's what I was trying to point out in the SS with the bolt.
Why would it be enabled with the bolt and not the guns?
I enabled the dynamic crosshair in the options menu, but it shows a number ( how far away the target is) instead of the crosshair which works, but I don't like.

the crosshair for the guns is different

I think it's a console command. Not sure what it is though.

Well I don't really know what the graphics should look like, I have mine set on Low-Medium, I don't have as good as a PC.

This site has all the info you could ever need on STALKER. And for the crosshair, try turning off in-game AA to see if it comes back.

graphics dont look too amazing, but the gameplay is and the quests. You just get mods anyways to make them look better

Besides, that particular screenshot isn't doing anything justice.
