I just broke the 15K barrier - Page 4

quads score heaps more in 3D06 than duals. Look at CPU scores (those can be compared because they run at 640x480 no matter what resolution the "setting is at". I realized that because my TV self adjusts to the res output and the CPU tests are both 640x480 even if you set the res to 1920x1080.

I score almost 12988 with a single HD3870...but my quad scores higher. When I ran same settings on a 3.6GHz Xeon 3060 (e6600 equivalent) I only got 11873. Doesn't sound like much difference but it is all from the CPU.

With Quad http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=6665092
With Dual http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=5813003 AND this is running 450FSB the quad is only 400FSB.

Well the problem is that it's not a Quad so it has to run faster for the same 3DMark06 score.

Although this is a faulty one due to the 1280*1024 and the 70C temperatures O.O

I thought 15k was to high for such a system, especially a single 8800GT, OP you need to get a new monitor (and HSF by the look of things).. And then run the benchmarks again.

From What I have read, a Quad at 3.5 gives a similar 3DMark06 score to a Dual at 4.2.

So, your Quad at 3.6 will score higher then a dual at 4.0.

RaiDer,
I don't understand your 8800GTS Settings "820/2020/2240" Is the 2240 actually 1120 memory? Did you do anything special to achieve such an overclock? Why don't you provide an actual Orb comparison link and not a screenshot of 3DMark?

Yes, it is DDR, so the actual clock is 1120.

That is a 4.2GHz E8400 and it STILL doesn't outscore a 3.6GHz quad. And I find it hard to believe that 100MHz will drop my CPU score by nearly 2300pts.

Yes, Quads absolutely destroy Duals in 3DMark06. You could top 6k CPU score with a Quad, you might break 4k with a dual.

Those settings aren't that hardcore...

CPU: 3.42 ghz
GFX: 840 mhz core / 1103 mhz mem / 2098 mhz shader

Score: 14228

Oh and when I get my Q6700 up and running I'll provide a compare link and GPUz validation... Until then my old SS's will have to suffice, I don't feel like pumping 1.55 vCORE through my little e4300 again. Can't risk frying it anymore since it will power my future HTPC rig.

Correct, the quad(3.5) obliterates the dualie(4.2)... at least in multithreaded apps.
