VID?? 1.3 volts on a q6600

Thread Starter
i have a q6600 running at 3.7 stable and my VID is stock at 1.3. question is what is VID? what does it do? should i up the volts? lower the volts? what happens if i lower the volts? any benefits?

also where would i find to change this on my broad? where is the settings?

VID is actually complex, but generally, the higher the VID, the more volts you're gonna need to pump through the processor to overclock.

I also have 1.3 VID, and It took 1.48 to hit 3.6, so if your overclock is stable, and your temps are low, I'd say you have a good overclock.

VID is the spec for your particular chip, it requires 1.30 volts to run at stock. Each one id diff, and like mechtech said, the lower the VID, supposedly the less voltage you need to get to higher OC. You can not change your VID.

No one's ever changed their VID. It's just how it comes. You get lucky or you don't. I, myself, got royally screwed, because my VID is 1.325 and it's the worst you can possibly have. It takes 1.43v for a stable 3.4Ghz.

They didnt. Its part of the cpu itself, your cpu tells the motherboard it needs 1.30 to operate. some ppl have a VID of 1.2xxx I have a VID of 1.3125. the only way to change it is to buy a new cpu, but that one may be 1.325 VID.. Again, each one is diff, however as you obviously know you can change the voltage, which essevcially is all the VID is, its just the lowest possible Voltage...
