Gigabyte EP35-DS3R + E8600 + Koolance exos2

post #1 of 17

Here is my setup,

Intel E8400
gigabyte EP35-DS3R
Billistic ram 1g x4 4 4 4 12
water cooling with koolance exos2
south and north bridge both cooled by air
gx card is 8800gt not oced
ps = ocz gamextream 750w
hd = maxtor 1tb 7200

anyways, i got this sytem setup 1 week ago and i have been running into lots of problems...

its been stable at 3.6ghz 400x9

i am wondering if there is anything i need to do to the board, such as updating memory

with watercooling cpu is running at around 110-120 degrees, NB at 120+ SB at 90-100

i haven't been touching computers for 2 years now since i built my last system... this system is based on my last watercooling system just new interior...

please let me know if i am not doing anything right

i have vcore are 1.3 , everything else +0.1v on the giga bios

also i have most of the power saving crap in bios off so the cpu will run at 3.6ghz

i am wondering if it is possible to hit 4ghz with ease... thanks guys~~

p.s. my mistake on the title its 8400 not 8600 -.-

If thats right, then thats your problem! You should try keep the tempertures under 60 degres during load.
Oh, hai.

lol sorry its 8400 -.- my bad

also i am talking f...

i relaxed the timing on the ram to 5 5 5 15 and cpu still runs 108 f unloaded..

could it be the koolance exos2 not working anymore?? i see water pumping...

however, sb is at 84 and nb at 91, temp came down a bit after i glued 2 fans on them

in addition, i have been getting lots of blue screens ... i changed sata cable, and switched the new 4gb ram to old 2 gb ram. i stopped getting problems...

it might be a bad ram, i am gonna get new ones tomorrow and will keep u guys updated

thanks for all the replies

Just to clear up any confusion, always give temps in °C.

Now to your stability problem. What voltages are you running? For example, the board only gives the ram 1.8v by default, but they are rated at 4-4-4-12 with 2.2v. So you need to add +0.4 v to Ram overvoltage control. You also need to increase your G(MCH) voltage ... aka northbridge, by +0.1v as well as your FSB voltage (which you already have). I bet after increasing your ram, you can get a stable 3.8GHz - 4.0GHz OC.

Also post your ram divider and speed (shown in CPU-Z under the memory tab).

i have ran a few diags and found out that 1 of the 4 1gb ram i have is DOA, so i have returned all 4 sticks back to frys and will plan to get new ones tomorrow. for now, i am using my old geil pc6400 and its perfectly stable at 3.7ghz with ram at 5 5 5 15 410 mhz, vcore at 1.3v (cpuz shows 1.248v) sb now running at 27C nb at 32C and CPU at 38C. however, 8800gt seems to be really hot for some reason.. i might have to buy a cooler for that...

tomorrow i will try to overclock the e8400 to 4.0 and try to have it stable, i need ur inputs on how to set up the ram timings.. i am totally new to that part...

also, what does the rated fsb mean in cpuz? i have it at 1640.01 mhz btw my MB only goes up to 1600FSB and 1200 for ddr2

YOUR inputs are appreiciated!!!
