E8400 Prime95 errors - Not overheating

Thread Starter
Hi All,
I've got an E8400, on a Gigabyte mobo, with Corsair RAM. It went up to 3.6 Ghz without a hitch, but as soon as I hit 3.7, Prime95 starts spitting out errors.

-I don't think it is a heat issue - the Core Temps rarely break 50c and never more than 53c. I've got a Zalman 9700 that is cool to the touch.

-I think it must be the CPU, as when I change the multiplier from 9 (3.7) down to 8(3.3), everything checks out fine with no errors. The Ram is a champ on Memtest86

Is this normal? Can the processor have a limit regardless of temp? I was always under the impression that if it was in the safe temp zone, it should behave normally.

Thanks.

how much voltage are you giving your CPU?

It's usually at about 1.31; I have the motherboard set to adjust automatically.

yes but I believe the max safe voltage on air for the 45nm chips is 1.36... So don't go over that.

Here's a screen shot 3.65, stable. Anything faster, and I get errors.

you should try setting vcore manually to 1.3 or lower. and raising nb voltage and setting ram to 2.1

I second that.

And also raise "FSB OverVoltage Control" to 1.3-1.4.

There should not be any problem to get 3.6 at 1.25 and 3.8 or higher at 1.36.

Good luck

What version of prime is that? Looks single-threaded. Also, what are you using to monitor temps?
