My computer keeps shutting down... Please help!

Thread Starter
Alright, well... I have decided to start up FFXI again with a few friends and everything was fine for the first 3 days but now every time I run it it will randomly shut off my sound and monitor (but the fans will still be going); it'll happen randomly between 5 to 30 minutes.

My computer specs:
Windows XP Professional SP2
Intel Core2Duo 2.13gHz 4mb cache
nVidia 7800GS (AGP... I know...)
2GB DDR400 RAM
450w power supply

I generally have FFXI at max settings with 1680x1050 resolution (and similar background texture resolution), never lags or anything. (the game was released 2001-2003 and is not very GPU or CPU intensive)

Basically, I have checked for overheating, but just before the computer crashes I have seen my GPU only get up to 50C and my CPU only get up to 35C. I have all updated video card drivers and have cleaned out my computer for dust and dirt and making sure everything is connected right.

The only other thing I can think of is that perhaps there's not enough power, but I wouldn't think I'd need anything more than a 450w power supply for my specifications (and I'm not willing to go spend a whole heap of money on a power supply that I don't really need). I'm not quite sure how to monitor the voltages through nVidia Monitor (turns up as "not reported" for every field).

Anyway, please help! I am so eager to get back in and start my new character... Also, I used to play games like Bioshock last year at max settings and never came across this problem.

Cheers,
Omecle

P.S. Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, I don't know where else to put it...

What is the make/model of your PSU and how old is it? Also, what it the make/model of your motherboard? Is your CPU at stock speeds or overclocked? What about your video card, is it overclocked at all?

Also, please CLICK HERE and add system specs. That way we don't have to keep refering to your first post for them.

Welcome to OCN! Please fill out your system specs ... even though you posted them it is a lot more effecient if you fill out a sig rig in your control panel.

Sounds like your motherboard is messed up. Just for fun, rush a chkdsk, could be a corrupt file somewhere.
