Graphics card met its maker :(

Thread Starter
Hi guys got a bit of a problem here.

I think my Graphics card (8800GTX) has died on me. was enjoying a good afternoon session of COD4 yesterday when all of a sudden the screen went blank and went into power save mode.

Thought it was odd so i rebooted the pc only to find the screen staying in power save mode. The pc was booting, as the G15 was lighting up along with the lights on G5 mouse.

Tried a few reboots, checked to make sure the card was fitted securely and had not become loose. Also checked all cables , still nothing.

I then took the old card i had from my second PC (a 7900GTx) and removed the 8800 and put this card in its place, boot up happened no problem at all on the screen popped on as normal.

So without stating the obvious, i can presume the 8800 is now in GFX card heaven?

Secondly, i am in the process of RMA with BFG so i was wondering would now be a good time to upgrade to a 9800GTX or should i be holding out for the next generation of Nvidia card (and when is it due out).

Cheers in advance guys.

Detach your computer from the wall for 10 minutes so there is absolutely no power, then plug it in again and try a reboot.

Mine used to do the same, and i had to completely remove power from the card for a 10-20 minutes before it worked again. I found the problem was an over ambitious overclock in the middle of summer temperatures.

To be honest you won't see much difference between the 9800GTX and the 8800GTX. Stick with what you have unless you need to have the best of the best. If you start saving those pennies now you'll be ready to go for when the next generation launches.

This review shows an increase of only a few FPS. Not worth the extra bank if you ask me.

If your monitor has two inputs, try plugging them both in, i had the same problem with a x1600Pro, so I plugged in the other port and it showed up on it, I think the DVI port was shorted, but either way, it worked when I plugged the Graphics Card in, booted off the other disp. out port then reinstalled drivers.
