The Skinny:
Quote:
The system hovered around -55°C under load and often approached -60°C at 4.68GHz (14x333) using a 1.75v VCORE [QX6850]. This setting was unstable under load. Unfortunately, we were unable to determine whether the chip or the five phase PWM of the IX38 QuadGT was the culprit. Further attempts to fine-tune our efforts was hampered by condensation; fearing for the safety of our hardware, we aborted when our system simply shut off on us.

We are convinced, however, that the Cryo-Z unit could take a G0 quad to 5GHz with a better board and a good chip flying wingman. With a Yorkfield in the socket, 5GHz would probably have been a relative walk in the park to achieve.

Wow those guys are pure idiots. They stopped the test because they were afraid of condensation? They should have darn well knew that it would go below ambient temperatures. If they would have done proper condensation proofing, that wouldn't have happened.

no insulation= big fail those guys are lucky it all didnt go up in a puff of smoke.
i hope ocz put some proper insulation and grease in the box when it retails.

Couple of questions...

1. Why is it being tested by a pretty much unknown review site instead of somewhere like Tom's Hardware?

2. Why isn't it listed on the main page of their site?

Looks like they did use the insulation if you read properly, but the condensation was coming because of a faulty evap head...

From RyderOCZ at XS

Quote:
Not that it makes any difference, but the unit they looked at is my unit. The same unit I have made posts here at XS with.
Icrontic's headquarters are 2 hours away from me in Detroit, I know the guys quite well. I took the unit over there for some benching and yes, insulation issues were our biggest problem.
So apparently they got a unit for a few hours and did the best they could.

Sorry for no link but linking to other forums is frowned upon.

Ahh, fair enough.

Although what's going on:

And that's with obvious build quality problems...
