Memory 1:1, 5-5-5-18

Core Voltage should be save now I guess?
Looks fine to you guys or did I forget something?
I have to adjust my findings because when I started Prime95 with Core Voltage on 1.2750 my PC rebooted.

So I came to Core Voltage on 1.30625 to run Prime95 (Small FFT's) for one hour without errors.
Temps with RealTemp were at max. 71,67,67,67. Are those temps ok?

My idle temps are 52,44,46,49 in RealTemp. Is that high too? (Room temp is about 32C right now)
I have a fan on my Scythe. I have some Noktua fans coming in soon so I will try replace it with my Scythe fan.

What temps in RealTemp do you guys have? (With a Q9300 I hope)
Or should I really reseat?

Your idle temps are quite high, even with your ambient temp at 32. Maybe try reseating again?

You have a pretty good overclock, even with the low multi limiting you..

You also might want to check into doing a vdroop pencil mod; it will increase system stability and might even enable you to use less vcore.

That's a hot room. I take my temp statement back. I don't even want to know what my temps would be like if my room was 89F/32C.

My room is consistently 30C and my temps are generally in the ballpark of ~40-44C on all four cores, so he might be able to get them down lower.

I'm still waiting for my buildings damn AC to kick in.

Using Windows XP Home SP2.

My questions:
1. Can I run it at 3 Ghz just by setting the FSB to 400 and leaving the rest of the BIOS at default?
2. I think 3 Ghz is enough for me or can the Q9300 with the P5E take more without running on the edge? (cause I don't want that)

Hope for your advice.

Philip Platt
I got my Q9300 to 3.0Ghz with ease. I don't have your mobo or RAM but it should be able to as lond as your BIOS update is up to date. All I had to do is change my FSB to 1600 and that was it. You might want to play with the vcore to see if it is stable with a lower vcore. IF you need something just PM me.

Yeah, I just built a new rig on the abit ip35 pro with a q9300. First thing I did once I had windows installed and had realized I needed to up the MCH voltage to get stock timings (4-4-4-12 XMS2 PC6400) on my 4 2GB RAM modules was go straight to 3GHz with no messing around at lower speeds, at stock voltage (1.26vcore). Tested solid for 20 hours in prime95.

Now I'm testing 3.375GHz (450 FSB) at 1.3125 vcore, and it looks promising. I wasn't able to get into windows within the chips VID at over 475 FSB. 460 wasn't quite stable at 1.3425, and my temps were a little out of my comfort zone.

Hi Tribeca,
Any results?

Well, I made a complete list of my BIOS settings and hope for some tips on that.
I am still not really comfortable with my temps but then I don't know which monitoring program to use. I've got them all and my feeling says RealTemp 2.5?
It shows 10C less then CPUID HW monitor and it uses a TjMax of 95C, which I understand is the closest to my 45nm Q9300. Idle it reads 52,44,46,50 now.
I hope to see more stories about the Q9300 soon.

My system:
Asus P5E(X38) BIOS v0605
Q9300 – 3.225 GHz
Kingston DChannel, 2x2Gb DDR2 PC2-6400
Scythe Infinity/Mugen CPU cooler
Antec P182

BIOS settings
Extreme Tweaker:
AI overclock tuner – Auto
CPU ratio setting – Auto
FSB freq – 430
FSB strap to north bridge – 400 MHz
PCIE freq – 100
DRAM freq – Auto
DRAM command rate – Auto
DRAM timing control – Auto
pri.info: 5-5-5-18-3-52-6-3

Vcore voltage – 1.30625
CPU PLL voltage – Auto

DRAM voltage – Auto
NB voltage – Auto
SB voltage – Auto
Load line calibration – Auto
CPU GTL ref – Auto
NB GTL ref – Auto
SB 1.5 voltage – Auto

Advanced – CPU configuration
CPU ratio setting – Auto
C1E support – Enabled
CPU TM function – Enabled
Vanderpool – Disabled
Executable disable bit – Enabled
Max CPUID value limit – Disabled
Intel speedstep tech - Enabled

So tips are welcome. I haven't touched my RAM settings so tips on that would be nice too.

gr. Philip
