Asus Rampage Formula SB heatsink?

Thread Starter
Hi Guy's, I want to remove the NB heatsink and watercool it meaning the SB heatsink has to go too. My 9800GTX runs right over the SB on either PCI-E ports I use giving me just 10-15mm space for heatsink height on the SB. Ive been looking at this http://www.chilledpc.co.uk/shop/prod...roducts_id=490 but I'm not sure if it's good enough. Has anyone else changed their NB to watercooling and if so what heatsink did you use on the SB please?

It should be enough, I got a 40mm fan about 10 above the chipset and no heatsink and I never go above 35 in temp. (Ambient roomtemp 20).

Here´s pics of my cooling of SB and mosfet, it´s temporary, I thinking of get the same as you to cool the SB, but the holes in the board and the heatsink are not the same distance so we have to modify the heatsink a little, shoulded be a problem, that heatsink sure look nice.

I also thinking of get this for mosfet cooling, what do you think, the only thing is that I need 32 pieces of those

IMHO the SB shouldn't need much more than a small passive HS, especially if the heatpipe is disconnected from the NB. the ICH9R/10R SB has a thermal max of at least 80C, so going naked may even be possible.

I've noted that my SB temps are around 40-42C on load with the stock cooler, and they increase slightly just after the NB heats up. I'm willing to bet that if the heatpipe were not there my SB temps would drop by at least 6C.

I second that, we be better of if SB was seperated from the rest.

Hi Ghost, The SB heatsink we are looking at looks very possible alright so I've gone ahead and ordered one. I will let you know how I get on but it may be a few day's before it arives and probably the weekend before I have a chance to fit it. Thanks for the pics man but I am curious as to why you had to remove the mosfet heatsinks in the first place? I'm guessing it must have something to do with fitting you CPU block? Those little mosfet heatsinks are sure handy alright and they come in packs of ten. I wonder how good the are towards the stock mosfet heatsinks on this board though! I had no probs fitting my CPU block with the stock mosfet heatsinks and I'm gona take my rig apart to post you some pics. Will post them in about 30mins.

Great, I just have to wait and see how that SB heatsink fit.

About my mosfet heatsink, they don´t interfere with my CPU block, it´s just that I don´t want to cut the original heatsink in case of a RMA and I don´t think that the original mosfet cooler work that well, specially with those pushpins, on some new ASUS board they are using screws and a backplate, it should be better.

Looking forward at those pics.

Cheers

I understand what you mean about them pushpins and your onto a good idea not modifying anything that's undo-able incase of RMA. Anyway as promised those pics. You'll see in the close-up I had to sheer the left side of the block to get it in. Wasn't easy either, that's some tough metal. The things we do to get where we wana go LOL.

You could use an enzotech SLF-1 for the SB. I have one on my P5E and it works great.
