Q6700 or Q9300?

Thread Starter
A friend of mine is building a new PC and is torn between the 2. I suggested the Q6700 because of the amazing overclocking ability.

He will be using either chip with an EVGA 780i board.

So he wants to know:
1. which overclocks better
2. with both processor's overclocking potential in consideration which is better performance wise for gaming.
3. price per performance wise which is the better value overall and why.

I think he should get the Q6700 Because of the better Ocing possibility and the 45nm is very sensitive to Vcore...but hey I am just putting in my

I would say the Q9300 and it's low 7.5 multi will produce some poor oc'ing. The Q6700 is a nice chip but on air will be able to hit the same clocks as the Q6600. The Q6600 is between $60-$80 cheaper. I have the 780i and the 6600 and have no complaints.

The Q6700 will consistently do 3.8 on air. The Q6600 will not unless you get a golden VID.

the Q9300 is a POS...

Definitely Q6700.

1. $5 cheaper at Newegg
2. Higher multi
3. Great overclocker
4. Awesome price/performance ratio
5. Not too sensitive to vCore

Tell your friend to get the Q6700 as others have said. It is only $259 at Tiger Direct, and will be a much better OCer then the Q9300

Q6700 because of the 10x multi (its the same thing as the Q6600, except the 10x multi instead of 9x).

Will hit 4Ghz if you push it, while the Q9300 will struggle past 3.2.
