Quick CPU Stress Test Q

Thread Starter
I am trying to figure out what craps out when I OC my CPU & RAM. I usually do link them, my cpu at 3.2 and my ram at around 800mhz. It works for a little bit but then after a couple of days, my computer will freeze.

I am using orthos to stress test only my CPU right now. It is at 3.4ghz and 1.41V. How long should I run orthos? I planned for about 1-2 hours, just so I know if its my CPU or not. Is this okay?

Orthos for 1-2 hours isn't enough, for stable overclock, usually people do 8 hours of small FFTs to test the CPU. Also, run 5 or 6 passes of Memtest to rule out your RAM holding you back. Seeing as how you have 4GB sticks, maybe your memory controller is being stressed too much, you could try increasing the NorthBridge voltage by a notch or two.

Run OCCT2, way better then Prime95 or orthos IMO.

how long should i do that for?

OCCT 2.0.0a for six hours is a good, quick test IMHO. Custom/mix setting. TO shake out CPU, set to CPU. 8 hours of OCCT/CPU is pretty solid for CPU (I'm shaking a bug out now with it)
