Question about the Xigmatek HDT-S1283

The price for the HDT-S1283 was very reasonable so i went ahead and ordered one.
http://www.frostytech.com/articlevie...id=2233&page=5
they rated it as their second best performing so i figured it can't be all that bad - my concern is with the base.

http://www.frostytech.com/articleima...S1283_base.jpg

It looks uneven. Do you think i should sand it down a tad just to make sure the contact is ok ? I have sand paper laying around from lapping 320 grit -500 grit - 800 and 1500.

Also i'm aware the push pins suck - apparently the thermalright bolt kit works this heatsink so i went ahead and ordered that too, can anyone confirm this ?

Ha I was just about to post asking about alternate mounting solutions for this cooler. Yes, the push pins SUCK!. One of my pushpins will not lock no matter how hard I push down on it. I ran coretemp while stressing all four cores of my Q6600 at stock speeds/volts, temps hit 70-80*C and slowly crept up to over 90! I pushed down hard on the pushpin while it was running and temps instantly dropped to around 40*C. This is at 100% load, stock speeds/volts.

So it looks like a good cooler to me but needs better mounting. I'm sure not all coolers come with a busted pushpin but still, they seem cheap.

EDIT: Oh, and I lapped mine because I was concerned with the flatness as well. I never hooked it up before lapping so I can't compare temperature differences, but it's a good idea if you have it laying around.

Also, can you link me to the bolt kit you bought?

i heard from 3 people these work with the xigmatek - if you wait a few days i'll be able to confirm it.

also i just googled "HDT-S1283 bolt through kit". You get several forum responses of people claiming to have used them with the xigmatek.

Shipping is like 6 bucks for me in mail...
12 bucks for a mounting kit?
Eh, I'll take a look at how the pins work...
Also. it says this heatsink is better, but I can't find any place that sells it:

xHassassin, that looks to be a mighty fine cooler. It looks better than the xigmatek in that the base is larger. It seems to be flatter but then again there's nothing a good lap job can't do!

I own a lapped TRUE and let me tell you, the bolt kit is amazing. The heatsink is really firm. 12 dollars is kind of expensive, however, it's totally worth it if you can find it under 8 bucks or something.

umm... for the bolt kit go to either frosty tech or frozencpu or even petras' and they have it for cheap. so that should work. cause then you can use first class mail and thats like only 2 bucks for shipping. so do that. it works great cause i have a smaller version of the s1283
