Nah. I use a D-Link wireless bridge to get on my network, and play Rock Band and Halo 3 online with no lag whatsoever.

Curious as to why streaming wasn't an option? You already had the wireless adaptor; and although I've not tried it myself, I've heard that the X360 works great as a Media Center Extender.

I tend to agree with the other guy, if I had no interest in the games then I probably would have just dropped a PC in there. I'm actually considering a Mac Mini as a media center for my living room; I've been playing with an old G5 I borrowed from work, and I'm finding the Mac OS X experience to be quite nice as a media center experience (and iMovie HD is easy to use, I must say). I'll probably stick with a PC though, it's just what I know best. But I would not even consider dropping an X360 or PS3 in there, personally.

Oh well, guess I don't get to blow up ElMike in Halo any time soon.

You see guys, A Console is a good media server because it can play movies/music, and then "when" you want to play a game you can. There's always an intention to play games, even though your main purpose is media. The 360 can only be used through MEDIA CENTER!

Lol just don't try Apple TV. It will melt itself into your Entertainment Center.

No idea what you're trying to say with this...

Apparently you're arguing that PCs can't play games, only consoles can...which is obviously wrong, as anyone in the PC Gaming forum will happily "educate" you.

Then you're saying that the X360 can only work in conjunction with a Windows PC on the back end, which is only an issue if you're a 100% Macintosh household. (You do not need XP Media Center to use the X360 for streaming media, if that's what you were trying to get at.)

No. What I'm trying to say is, Why build a Media PC for alot more money? When you can buy a console, and play console games on it. Along with media, etc. I'm not saying you cant play games on pc *****!!! With the console, It WILL be cheaper, and quicker/simpler. Nothing wrong with getting a media PC, but I would rather purchase a console which can do both for alot cheaper. Dont be silly vulcan, It use to be like this, you either need vista or media center for streaming via xbox, and not everyone uses vista or MCE. But You can now use WMP11, I think. I havent touched the box in ages, so I'm not sure . I use Tversity on the PS3.

Agree, I dont want to have to start up my computer to listen to music or watch a movie. . . . plus we review our photo albums on it all the time with the media card thing.

Streaming media off a network, particularly larger files, is much slower then when the media is on the actual hard drive. I'm not impressed with the Media Extender software either...or maybe it was Media Center...Plus I dont like to leave my sig rig running when I don't have to. I'm not the type to leave my PC on 24/7. It's just a waste of electricty/money. Sadly you wont get to blow me up. I really enjoyed Halo while I played it. But I just couldnt justify keeping the console when it doesnt meet the one solid reason for wanting one.

As far as a media PC or HTPC...it's just not as cost effective in my mind when I can get, and I hate to say it, a PS3 that does the same thing and is arguably more user friendly. Not to start a flame war, but the PS3 is leaps and bounds better than the 360 in the media dept. In terms of a media hub, I'd much rather use that in a bedroom or living room than a PC. Less parts, less expensive, quieter and no leg work.

I'm more than disappointed at the moment. I simply cannot believe I cant copy music and video to the hard drive. Running things off a thumb drive or external is not an option, nor is streaming it. I'm returning it for a second PS3. The 360 simply doesnt meet my needs.

How funny is that? I really should have done my homework.
You can copy music to the hard drive.

on a side note can the PS3 hold files that are larger then 4 gigs?

Not from an external HDD or thumb drive. And yes, it now can.

my 360 plays EVERYTHING i download, don't know what you are talking about. I'd like to store it on the hard drive, but now looking back. Streaming is much better considering my 500gb is almost full

There's an option when you set up the extender to have the 360 use files if the computer is off
