There's an option when you set up the extender to have the 360 use files if the computer is off
Can you copy a file (like an mp3, or mp4) from your thumb drive or external HDD and store it directly on your 360's hard drive? If you can, thats news to me, because I tried extensively to and I researched google like a mofo looking for an answer other than No. The only thing I found was this software that gives you access to the 360 HDD, and it takes a little bit of modding. No thanks.

As far as streaming goes, it's got nothing on playing a file stored directly on a HDD or other local media.

Ive heard of this legendary piece of equipment that allows you to connect your harddrive to a Sata router and into your PC via USB or something like that. BUt that was wayyy back when 360 first came out.

i didn't say anything about storing it, like i said. I'd rather have it stream than store close to nothing on the hard drive. I've had no problems with streaming anything. Except a blu ray rip.
