Noob at overclocking (Q6600)

Thread Starter
Hello, I'm brand new at the OC scene, I just finished building my 3rd computer but I've never OCed before, I've read about people overclocking their Q6600 to 3.0GHz with a "one two punch". This is all I really need to know how to do, any software recommendations or anything would be helpful to know how to overclock my system.. Thanks a bunch

go to your bios and change FSB from 266 to 333.

OR if its at 1066 change it to 1333

Cpu and ram overclocking is done in BIOS, but you can use monitoring and stress-testing software within windows.

Here
's the guide you need.

Said and done.

I basically did this to my friends Q6600, and it ran perfectly fine on stock voltages.

agreed. if that doesn't work for some reason, all you would have to do is bump up your vcore a notch or 2.

wow guys thanks for the quick responses, very helpful forum, I've only run across one question when changing the FSB speed in bios, for Memory Clock Mode do I put Linked or Unlinked... Thanks again

Thats no big deal, up the voltage to a recommended max of 1.5 only if you have to in order to achieve your desired OC. Meanwhile monitor your idle/load temps and make sure they don't get too out of hand. The idea is to get the highest OC possible without exceeding a safe temperature. It's strange that your in those temperatures with stock voltage and no O/c but you are also on a B3 which wont O/C as well as a G0. Did you apply the thermal paste with the proper line method? If not Id go ahead and reapply your thermal paste and see how that affects your current temperatures. If that works proceed to increasing your Vcore by minimal amounts and try and get a OC.

does Linked or Unlinked not make a difference?

alright I did it Unlinked and got it to work fine, my only concern is that my Nvidia control panel shows my FSB is at 1.400v and its red, is this ok or should I lower it?
