Please help with CPU upgrade

Thread Starter
I would like to upgrade my CPU however I'm not familiar with the newer intel cpus. I prefer to keep it under $400. And is there any benefit with quad vs duo in gaming (which I normally use teh computer for).

I have
vista 32 bit
2 gigs of ram
mainboard nForce 680i SLI 775 T1 Version
8800 gtx video card
and an intel E6600 (which i think is my weak link).

appreciate any help

A E6600 is already pretty decent, the only major stepup IMO is to upgrade to a quadcore since they are more future proof.

It's already decent enough... Farsight better than what I have.

If you must upgrade, then try and find a Q9450 or a Q6700.
Blackbox.
