Only girls I've ever gamed with was the PMS clan in Halo2 (yes, they played that as well.) way back in the day. Me and a couple buddies managed to beat them, barely. That's saying something, as we were damn good. (Can't back it up anymore, don't have my account anymore )
'bout time.

Not sure about this one myself, the only women that I've ever been even remotely involved with had ZERO technical skills at all, especially the last one. By her own admission she couldn't even figure out Mario(NES), and she's now getting her masters in behavioral pysche.

Sure there are games geared towards females. Most of it just happens to be bs like barbie and cooking mama (althought that ones pretty fun if you try it ), but the industry is taking a step towards broadening their horizons atleast. It's true girls are playing games more often now even if majority of it is stuff like tetris and WoW (even thought i hate wow with a passion), but I agree with what someone else stated. I wouldn't consider most of this 'girls gaming' but rather girls that happen to "play games". I guess it also just comes down to what one defines "gamer" as.

As for the rarity of "gamer" girls, a major problem is just what people expect out of us. For some reason most of society feel that females and males aren't allowed to have the same interests, and that if you cross the line suddenly you're an odd ball. And so, girls go on being interested in clothes and shoes because that's what's "normal" for them, and stay far from games and anything computer related. I've experienced some of this trouble in the past myself, although by now I'm rarely bothered by it. Unfortunately, girls are extremely critical and totally alienate others whom may be interested in games or scifi movies etc (anything "nerdy")... And although I haven't had too much of a problem with this, I have a few other of my close friends who do actually get picked on a lot. Personally, I get the most trouble from my mom... who is constantly telling me I should be into "normal" girl interests and criticizes me every time I sit down to play some games. So I dunno about other girls, but to me it seems to be a big problem with pressure from peers/society.

My girlfriend plays games, it took a while before she switched to 3D games tho (she only played 2D games before she knew me). But we play WoW and TF2 together all the time now. And when I'm not around she plays the oldskool games like Keen or Peggle
