sorry I'm not to sure on the geforce cards as I have only worked with ati cards so far.
After GF6 nvidia made changes to the way the cards are identified so that this procedure using rivatuner isn't effective anymore. On some newer cards (such as the G80 based one they had in the article) you can still use NVstrap to change what model name is displayed for the card, but if you actually try any benchmarks or software it's pretty obvious that the name is the only thing that was altered.

NVidia Softmod doesnt work anymore most possibly

but ati softmod might still be working

so I will try to replace my
