Cannot install sound card drivers- "Access Denied"

Thread Starter
I just got the X-Fi extremegamer but cannot install the drivers. I installed the drivers from the CD and the internet but on the device manager its still not installed. So I clicked update software and told it to search in both places (2 different times)- when I send it to the desktop for the downloaded drivers it says it didn't find any. When I send it to the CD it says installing for a few seconds then it says a problem occured- "Access was denied"

Please help me.

Are you running vista? If so, right click on the executable and say run as administrator. See if that makes a difference...

Yea im on vista. Ok I'll try that.

Any other ideas?

Well I can install that driver but when I restart, it still doesn't show that it installs so I don't think thats the problem.

Any time i've seen access is denied errors, its been permission/access related, give the right click and run as administrator a shot and let me know.

It only says access denied when I tell the device manager to update software then I tell it to chose this location, not when I install that. I'll try anyway though.

Nope, still says "access denied" when it updates drivers from the device manager.
What's confusing is that I installed the drivers from the CD and downloaded already but it still shows that the device is not installed.

I have the Fatal1ty and I get the exact same problem. I try to install the drivers and it says access denied.
I had the same problem for a wireless card with Vista. Some of the cards need you to install the drivers, turn off the machine and install the hardware, start backup and it sometimes shows up. Another solution would be to log in as the "Administrator" account. This requires that the welcome screen be disabled so you get the network-type windows login screen.

This can be done by typing "netplwiz" in the search field and press enter. Click in on the advanced tab and check the option "Require users to press crtl+alt+delete".

Restart your machine and login as Administrator, then install.
