You sure your heatsink is placed correctly? is the wire stuck inside the fin? causing the fan to not spin?
i dont think he is such a noob to do that :S

I believe you are incorrect. My zalman 9700 keeps my OC'ed Q6600 nice and cool. I believe this to be a convex/concave problem with the cpu not the zalman as it has a mirror finish. Also you shouldn't have an intake fan on the top of your case as hot air rises. You need an exhaust on the top and the back of the case and have the rest of the fans as intake.

Using my 9700 NT in my case i've been getting load temps of 60-65 but that is taking into account it was on my overclocked 6000+ at 3.4 Ghz and the temps in the room were prob near 30C ... i know sucks doesn't it lol .... so im going to keep it running at stock until it cools down then do a stress test back at that setting to see the difference. Hoping everything shows out to be better.

was there a backplate that came with the 9700? I can't remember...but then I bought one before and it gave me high temps...tried resetting a number of times...even tried different pressures with the screws but I eventually gave up...returned it and bought something else and it gave me almost 15 degrees cooler temps.

i actually have this same processor overclocked to 3.45ghz and am using the 100percent copper zalman 9700. its really really hot at the moment over here and have never seen the temps go above 40 idle and 53c load, and i mean its really hot, like uncomforabley hot, even sweating,( i did this to test the point, cuz i do have an airconditioner), om normal days i get between 30c and 40-45 load. the zalman 9700 nt is also made of a different material than th copper version, its plated in nickel and the rest is aluminum with the exception of the base being copper, so its not that zalman doesnt perform its that this is not the best in their products, plus its been through nvidia to have the little label on it which raises the price lots more. specs:xfx 780i mobo, q9300 cpu@3.45ghz, 9800gtx,nzxt zero case(shich coulld actually explain alot)

This is a bad piece of advice. I use the 9700 to cool my Quad with no problems at all. I OC it to 3.6 for benchmarks but run it at 3.5 24/7. My idle temps are 38C and load are 57C.

Harobi

I used AS5 btw.

lmao you actually used vodka? Even when your using rubbing alchnol, you wanna stick with 90%+ alcohol, water is bad for the cpu, but alcohol is not

He is actually correct
Zalmans suck for what they cost

He should've gotten a TRUE, OCZ Vendetta II, or Xigmatek HDT-S1283
