all my games from HD are gone, including all other files

ok, so i just installed nod32, ran a complete scan, system is fine. i went to play bioshock, it loaded up fine, its on my f drive. i then went to install the age of conan early access client , and when i went to install it, i noticed that all of the sudden all of my games, which is the only thing i have on drive f, are gone. bioshock, wow, aoc beta, and mythos beta. my drive is back to 139gb... nothing on it.

i have 2 x 150gb WD raptor 10,000 rpm drives, what would cause this?

did i do something , or do they simply wipe themselves from an error?

this is a pain , and i dont want it to happen again. any ideas?

Ok.. so I'm assuming you are not running a RAID here right? (You said the F: drive, therefore I'm assuming that the 2 Raptors operate as separate drives...)

I don't have a clue as to why your games got wiped, but I do have the following suggestion.

I would recommend that you install all of your application software to your main C: drive... then use some kind of backup utility (Norton Ghost, Acronis True Image, etc..) to make backups (full or incremental) of your C: drive to your F: drive. This way if anything ever gets wiped in the future, your backup copy will be there to save you.

BTW.. if you do go with a backup strategy, I'd HIGHLY recommend buying a 500GB+ SATA drive to store these backups on. Raptors don't have alot of storage on them, therefore I'd say that there are other more "cost effective" options for backing up your data.

Good luck... hopefully whatever wiped your drive won't happen again.

they can't just disappear....if all games and a lot of folder missing AND is not virus, I would bet on someone deleted it. Is possible a HDD cause this problem, but is not that easy to have this result.

p.s. different logon?

Were they unistalled or were the game folders just deleted? Usually if the game data is deleted it still shows up in the add/remove programs menu.

if you havent written anything to the drive since then, you can use an undelete program like Acronis Disk Director Suite, it might find the files.

This should delete the files from your registry to take them off the programs list so you can start over.

This is how Microsoft says to do it.
