Removing highlighter from Motherboard components?

Thread Starter
I did a simple UV mod to my motherboard about six months back, using a standard highlighter. It looked great, but I got rid of my UV cathodes and now it looks blotchy. I am wondering if there is a way to get it off the capacitors/sockets etc without damaging anything?

Thanks.

Goof-Off is a xylene based cleaner that should do the job.

Not Goo-gone

Or try some rubbing aclohol, or lighter fluid (carefully).

Thank you much Syrillian. I will go ahead and try rubbing alcohol first, 90% should suffice right? It is safe to use on the capacitors correct?

A cotton-swab that has a little moisture is how I go about it.

I don't think that caps are hermetically sealed, so when I clean there is only a hint of the solution so that when I press the cotton swab to the surface to be cleaned, there is no run-off.

It takes longer this way, but I wouldn't want to take the chance of frying anything once the mobo is powered up again.
