Well your CPU isn't exactly powerful.......have you ever watched a 1080P movie on your PC? You would be surprised.....a co-worker of mine got FPS loss with a 4400+ X2. I sold him my backup card (2400 Pro) and it fixed it.

That video card (mine included, has no UVD chip) will do absolutely nothing to decode the codecs.......AFAIK neither of ours decodes H264 either....

BTW guys, I watch H264 encoded media with full DTS 5.1 at 1080P and my CPU doesn't EVER go over %50....just FYI.

EDIT:

This article is vague at best. Are they indicating that non-UVD chip cards (pre-2900 series, including 2900XTs) will decode VC-1? I know they won't decode H264........they have to have the UVD chip. This is only on the 2400 Pro, 2600XT, and all of the 3 series cards.

It seems more an more people lately just completely fail at reading articles while being impatient and jumping to conclusions.
Come on, guys. What happened? I remember just a couple years ago people weren't hyper-sensitive and childish on these forums, what got up everyones flue?

Back on topic, this makes perfect sense, ATI has always been more focused on the HD media end of things. Pretty much all the X1XXX cards and up have featured AVIVO and had much better post-processing. Doesn't surprise me that AMD would have a leg up on the Blu-Ray market for decoding.

Well the 8800GT does have support for VC-1 decoding so AMD is full of crap saying the are the only one.

NVIDIA PureVideo™ HD Technology

Dedicated on-chip video processor
High-definition H.264, VC-1, MPEG2 and WMV9 decode acceleration
Advanced spatial-temporal de-interlacing
HDCP capable3
Spatial-Temporal De-Interlacing
Noise Reduction
Edge Enhancement
Bad Edit Correction
Inverse telecine (2:2 and 3:2 pull-down correction)
High-quality scaling
Video color correction
Microsoft® Video Mixing Renderer (VMR) support

Hahaha! AMD must be smoking crack. I was just browsing the nVidia sight and found that the 8200 even has full VC-1 Hardware decode support! Even their onboard solution
has VC-1 hardware support...

Who wrote that article and I want whatever AMD is taking

Lol...hmm. Pretty much.

If my computer doesn't play BluRay...I really could care less. I use my consoles or my mac to play DvDs and the likes. I'm starting to think I should change my little AMD symbol over to the left...

I believe the x1950xt/x cars at least had video decoding in there but I'm not sure how they compare to the 3k series cards

according to wiki so grain of salt here
quote]For VC-1 decoding, PureVideo 2 offloads the inverse discrete cosine transform (iDCT) and motion compensation stages, and relies on the host CPU to handle the bitstream processing/entropy stage of the video pipeline.[2]
[/quote]
Quote:
Compared to PureVideo 2, UVD improves VC-1 offloading with dedicated hardware for variable length code decoding. Benchmarks conducted by AnandTech found UVD to outperform PureVideo 2 in VC-1 playback.
so it seems that the cpu is still handling quite a bit of the proccess but I admit I don't know how much.
