Noob Needs Help

Thread Starter
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone can help with my problem.

My laptops processor is an Intel Celeron M with a base speed of 1.4GHz but a while ago something really strange happened. I was working on a word document for english at school when suddenly it crashed (losing all my work grr) but when i booted it back up i noticed a visible decrease in performance. I ran CPU-Z (when i still had windows on it) and it showed that my processor was running at a speed of 522MHz (i think it was that anyway, too long ago to remember exactly wat it was). I have asked a few people including my friend who is a mega-pc nerd but no one has been able to help me. I am gonna put windows back on it probably tonight or maybe tomorrow (gettin sick of Linux) but any help or possible reason for it occuring / how to fix it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Perhaps check the BIOS and set everything back to Optimised Defaults.

I would check the BIOS and see if speedstep is enabled. If it is then you may want to turn that off. If it is enabled what happens is it uses the processor at low speeds until you actually need it then it turns it up to the max speed for efficiency.

If running Windows XP, set your Power options to Always on and reboot, that affects the processor speed if not set to that on a laptop.
