40 FPS normal in CS:S in a PC like mine?

Thread Starter
I have a Q6600 @ 2.4GHz, EVGA 8800GT 512MB Superclocked @ 650/950/1620 and 2GB of Teamgroup Xtreem Dark DDR2 RAM @ 800MHz. The motherboard is a Gigabyte P35-DS3L. This with Ubuntu 8.04 and Wine 0.9.61. I know there is a newer Wine now, but I've uninstalled Ubuntu the other day and thought of going back again... By the way, I installed the drivers through the Ubuntu built-in driver manager... I dunno if that minds. Also I was running at 1680x1050 at max settings.

hmmm, im not sure if cs:s is made for linux (plz dont hurt me if it is, but yes let me know) and if it isn't then id expect that there is ur problem. do u have a copy of xp? try that and see if that fixes it. i see ur running vista 64bit and this may also have something to do with it. what do other games run like?

Wine is known to reduce the framerates of games, that's the downside. CS:S is indeed NOT a linux native game. I'd update to the newest wine and see if that changes anything. I assume that it would just be wine's fault anyway.

Do you have the DX9 emulator dll's?

If you were running in windows with an 8800GT at 1680x1050 FULLY maxed out with 16AA and 16AF you'd be getting upwards of 200FPS in CT / T spawn (de_dust2) and about 60FPS doublescoped + flashed sitting in pit of long A.

So yeah, you're FPS is really bad for that setup.

Wine's known to do that.... On some systems it just does not work well at all. For instance, I used to get 90+ fps on a 7600GT, after a recent wine update, CS:S and DoD:S don't even run

Where could I get those? I think that might be the problem... But I dunno, still if it isn't included with Wine when you install it then that could be the problem since I didn't install anything like that.

Why don't you just use windows to game instead of dealing with crippled framrates? Makes no real sense tbh.

That is DEFINITELY normal for Wine. Makes perfect sense. XP or Vista you would get 150+ FPS
