Easy Ways to Quiet My Comp?

Thread Starter
Hey guys, I'm looking for some quick ways to quiet my computer, but nothing too fancy or elaborate.

I'm using an Antec 900 case, with

4 x 120mm
1 x 200mm
2 x 20mm (Graphics card and 680i chipset fan)
Power Supply fan
Zalman 9700NT CPU fan

I don't know too much about how to adjust fan speed and such, i'm a noob in this area so don't hesitate giving me some very simple tips. My CPU is at about 39 C, and i think i have my fans turned on fairly high. My computer is very noisy and sounds like a hummer(pun intended)...

What CPU? Fill out your specs.

Get newer fans or undervolt your fans. Alway work on the loudest fans first.

or get a watercooling loop to reduce the number of fans needed.

how fast is your 9700 running. If you can adjust it on the mobo (like asus q fan) you can make it run silent and still get good temps. Also, you could buy the antec three speed fans and set them all to low.

A scythe, zalman, or thermaltake controller will do wonders. My motherboards have built in controllers, but if not you can be I would have something to throttle back my fans with. All makers mentioned package up a decent kit that includes molex-motherboard header adapters.

Newegg reviews are always to be taken with a grain of salt, personally I look for items with lots of buyers and over 75% of reviews in the 4-5 egg class. That gives atleast a base place to start.

Of course the easiest way may just be a rheostat type controller if you are just looking to reduce noise and aren't worrying about control of varying temps...

Grab a good Skythe fan controller from Petra's Tech Shop.

the antec 900 comes with tri-speed fans. They have little boxes hanging off of them, turn the switches to low. That's fairly simple.
