Not having enought ram is a good reason not to move up (though ram is cheap if you've got the headroom) and a few things are still tricky w/ vista.

However, I really really really like vista now that I've moved (I never experienced it before SP1 however).

I ran to this article earlier today and i have to say it really surprised me.
x64 Vista is starting to sound pretty decent now.

I still dualboot XP and Vista64, when Vista pisses me off with it's lag and crashing "Window Manager System" (happens sometimes - especially after heavy video recording) I go to XP.

It would appear as though there is no longer any reason to avoid Vista as far as gaming is concerned.

I wish they would specify whether they tried Vista64 or the regular 32-bit version. I have noticed that Vista64 is noticeably faster than Vista32. I would guess that they used 32-bit Vista since I think the performance gap would be a little greater between XPSP3 and Vista64 SP1. I suspected from the beginning it was Vista drivers that were the souce of crashes and performance issues, I guess now it's pretty apparent that was true.

From what I understand, you will only notice a difference in performance if the software utilizes all of the 64-bit width available to it (i.e. more than the 32-bit width of the 32-bit OS).

Alright here's my rant. I know people say games run at less FPS when they are played on Vista compared to when they are played on XP because of the resources Vista is using in the background while the game is being played. I'm sorry, but those take up next to no CPU power at all, and on a quad 1% is virtually no useage at all. Now for the RAM. I have 4GB, and it takes up about 2 of that on Idle. If I have a game that only takes up 1GB I have a whole 1GB free which the system may alocate to wherever. Why then are the games running slower when there are more than enough system resources to run it as good as or even better than when it is being run on Windows XP? I just don't get it? The only thing I can think of is that something is up with the way the video card drivers are managed. But why would they knowingly do that? I thought Vista was supposed to be the gaming OS?

Another XP vs Vista debate. *sigh* Vista is, like it or not, simply a marketing campaign. There is literally nothing Vista does that XP couldn't do with a patch or service pack. Yet M$ decided to add all sorts of extensions and so called innovations to an already burdened NT 5.x platform. I'm surprised they had the guts to call the platform itself NT 6.0 - it's nothing more than a bloated XP for God's sake!

Now about the recent benchmark uprising... you don't honestly expect Microsoft to be embarrassed online at every turn. You'd think that the holder of the OS monopoly had a word to say here and there...
