Worth overclocking ? - Page 4

ok so heres what i am now

Core speed: 2688.5MHz
Multiplier x12.0
Bus Speed 224.0 MHz
HT Link 896.1 MHz

the HT is on 4x now.. so ya.. i was able to get more than 2.6

If I put the Frequency higher than 225.0 windows doesnt boot.
I had installed AI Booster v 2.30 etc. and i booted up at 235.. when i started said something like "Failed CPU overclock" i hit F1 to continue.. it booted up.. it said 2823 MHz.. and in 10 sec later it said 2400mhz..
i checked it was AI Booster chaning the setting so I uninstalled it.. but i cannot boot up anything over 225.

now what else do I have to change? so far EVERYTHING is on AUTO. except Multiplier on x12 Frequency on 224 and HT on x4

do i have to change the vcore? ddr voltage or something in DDR timing? so far they're all on AUTO..
and btw im runnin 2.69ghz right now at 35-36-37 C... when i get in game is probably gonna get to 40s
so im still good

Nick, I'd recommend manually setting everything. So anything that is set to "AUTO" try manually entering in the values. Is your vcore set to AUTO? Try changing the value to 1.4volts. What type of DDR1 memory are you running?

Good luck

is it worth overclocking ?

if yes.. what should i look into overclocking?

Nick, I typically tried to avoid mixing memory of different speeds. I'd recommend overclocking with a matching pair of memory. It's also been said that overclocking with 4 DIMMs can cause some difficulty with overclocking and stability. Apparently the more DIMMs you run the more stress it puts on the IMC (integrated memory controller). In your case I'm almost positive your not wanting to buy new DDR1 memory (retail). It's expensive. If you do decide I'd go with a used pair. Of course that's all up to you

I hope this helps

i dunno when i changed the voltage to 1.40 i kept gettin the blue screen.

so i think ima leave it at AI Overclock 10% which takes me to 2.64 from 2.4 and ima buya new CPU soon..

what yall recommend ? im not lookin to over clock.. or maybe the 10% AI OC.

im willing to spend up to $300 on a CPU. what do u recommend ?
ive seeon on ebay some opteron 185.. ? are those good ?
newegg has like one 939 socket cpu.
CPU is def. the 1st thing to upgrade , dont go anywhere near $300 tho , you can get a good opteron dual core for around $100 tops .. my system was pretty close to yours afew months ago except with a single core 4000+ @ 3.0ghz , huge increase going to the opteron and personally I wouldnt buy the 185 if i were you , you can get better performance from the clocked 170 .. remember that board overvolts like krazy , so watch your temps .. i have one now {waiting on an a8n32 sli} blue screens are probubly from the "mismatched ram" your using

Dont waste your money on a 180 with that board , seriously 170s with a 10 multiplier depending on the stepping can clock high enough to last you for awhile , at least 2.6 even with the worst steppings {well maybe}
