In June, a startup plans to revamp the way PCs handle power, saving cost, improving their efficiency and offering more fine-grained control for overclocking the PC's components.
Chil Semiconductor is currently talking to customers about its first- and second-generation products, which company executives agreed to talk about in general terms. The goal is to shift the way in which PC motherboards handle power into the digital space, and eventually to rework the PC power supply as well.

Although Chil executives didn't specifically identify the product as such, the component appears to be an improved digital voltage regulator -- specifically, a multiphase switching regulator IC for Intel CPUs, according to Stephan Ohr, a Gartner analyst who published a short report on May 12. They are power management devices that replace the analog current-sense resistor and amplifier combination with a high-speedcomparator and digital state machine, he wrote.
Interesting if they could improve efficiency AND stability for less.
