I had the same issue with my comp freezing when left idle. A few questions, have you upgraded to SP1 yet? That helped me a little bit. The other issue was that I didn't have enough power getting to my CPU. It also had something to do with the OC on my CPU. Once I went back to stock speeds, it subsided. Just a few things to look at.
The other thing to try would be a fresh install. Format and reinstall and see if that works.
I'm just reinstalling all my programs right now actually
(you really don't realize how many there are until you reformat)
I picked up some new ram 2GB Mushkin HP2-6400 800MHz 4-5-4-11 @2.1v and I'm running with that atm i'm still waiting to see if it will do the same thing.
The other possibility is that the Crucial ram doesn't like my motherboard/processor which could very well be the case.
Oh, and I'm mainly using the XP side of my computer atm but I have installed the latest service packs on both XP and Vista
