M2n-e Sli + 3800+

First of all, I was using this same system with a 8600GT Fatal1ty, the GPU was doing fine but since the 9600GT seemed very good, saturday I bought one, first thing I did was test with some games, Hellgate London, Trackmania, Crysis, 3D Mark and etc. and just then I realized that the CPU was a bottleneck so after reading some guides and overclocking it to 2.5GHz I saw the limitations of this mobo, i cant raise the vcore more than 1.350, after doing some research about it it seems it CAN raise to 1.5 but the bios limits it for some CPUs so I tought that someone here could help me out bypass that limitation, I heard that booting an old bios can help...

I'm not a expert but I think that if a raise that vcore I can get this CPU to 2.6GHz or more.

CPU-Z screens if it helps anything:

2.0 to 2.5 isnt bad actually for a windsor.. My windsor doesnt like me going much over 400 mhz.

Have you tried a bios update?

Yes, I'm using the latest.

With 2.5 it didn't passed the Orthos test but I'm using it since yesterday playing all the games I said above and no errors so far, and the performance is much better.

Well people have gotten it to 3Ghz with more Vcore so try to incrase it to 1.4 first and check temp all the time.

I dont know if this is applicable to your board, but see if you can find an aftermarket bios. If not, then maybe its time to look at a volt-mod for the motherboard regulators....

Where, and how, do I get an aftermarket bios ?

Doesn't volt-mod require some eletronic knowledge ? Because I don't have any and I think some tools are required isn't it ?

I would first try reverting to a bios revision before the one youre using. That board should have voltage adjustment, and not be locked at 1.35.

Well, I tried using a BIOS from 2006 and was the same thing, and there was 1 new revision but it didn't worked too...well, I think i'm probably going to buy a 5000+ or 6000+, I just dont know if that 5000+ can hold the same 400MHz overclock I did on this 3800+. This 5000+ is a brisbane.

PS: The 2MB cache does any difference ?

the 5000+ can do 500mhz EASY, the 6000+ a bit less, most likely 500 is near the top.

Windsor cores with 1mb cache is the way to go though, as brisbanes lose out on lots of performance because of the limited cache memory.

I must note however. Upgrading your CPU will most likely NOT resolve your voltage issue unless its an issue directly with the cpu, in which case you will have lucked out.
