Need recomendations for a friends build. Please help me spend his money!

Im going to be building a rig for a buddy of mine. He is looking to spend about 1400 USD for everything except monitor. I figure that is a good price range to get him a solid performing gaming rig(he also does some engineering work on it, CAD and such)

I will be gettin him:
g0 q6600 -200$
NOCTUA NH-U12P for OC'ed cooling
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 - 170$
2 500 GB Seagate 7200 RPM hds - 160$

I need suggestions for the following:

Motherboard: I have not been following MoBos since i picked up my 680i A1. What is the best bang/buck non SLI MoBo? How about the best SLI MoBo? I dont know which chipsets are any good anymore as several have come about since 690i.

Sound Card: Xi-Fi?

GFX Card: He will be getting a 24 or 26" inch Widescreen HD TV for a monitor. Debating on a single card or dual card solution.

Between the following what would you suggest?
2 8800 GT SLI
2 8800 GTS SLI
1 9800 GTX
1 9800 GX2
1 3870x2

Obvioulsly the 9800gx2 is the best performer but really I am looking for best bang/buck. If the gx2 offer marginal real world performance increases over 2 8800 GT in SLI then im not gonna tell him to spend the extra 250$ on it.

And lastly are there any really asthetically appealing Cases that are light, not OVERLY flashy, have showcase panels and lots of easily accesible USB ports up front?

Best SLI mobo available is Striker II Extreme and reference 790i Ultra. For best non-SLI I would go with X48 (Asus P5E3 Premium or Rampage Formula) or P45 in the near future.

I will be gettin him:
g0 q6600 -200$ sounds good
NOCTUA NH-U12P for OC'ed cooling also good
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 - 170$ where you getting that price from newegg has the 1066 version of that ram for 150
2 500 GB Seagate 7200 RPM hds - 160$ you really only need one of those hd's to start with so if you need to shave off some cash keep that in mind

I need suggestions for the following:

Motherboard: What is the best bang/buck non SLI MoBo? not much of a buff on non sli but i know you should go for a p35 or x48 chipset take others advice
How about the best SLI MoBo? i would go for a 780i

Sound Card: Xi-Fi? auzentech prelude is the way to go but im not sure if it will fit into your budget right now

GFX Card: He will be getting a 24 or 26" inch Widescreen HD TV for a monitor. Debating on a single card or dual card solution.

Between the following what would you suggest?
2 8800 GTS SLI <----ding ding ding

If the gx2 offer marginal real world performance increases over 2 8800 GT in SLI then im not gonna tell him to spend the extra 250$ on it. right now the sli'd 8800gts's will outpreform the gx2 and cost less ^_^

And lastly are there any really asthetically appealing Cases that are light, not OVERLY flashy, have showcase panels and lots of easily accesible USB ports up front? the new antec 1200 might fit the bill, other cases to look into might be coolermaster 690 and armor+.

thats just my say in the matter if you have anymore questions just ask.
