Xbox 360 To PC Sound Setup

Thread Starter
I want to set up my 360 to use my computers line in or mic port to play sound through my pc speakers when gaming on my monitor. I have a HD VGA cable running via d-sub to my monitor and a switching box to swap between pc and xbox but when i want to listen to sound i have to enable audacity on record on the line in jack to be able to hear the games.

XBOX 360 -> HD VGA (phono out) -> Phono/3.5mm Jack -> Mobo Line In.

In XP there was a way to set it so the line in sounds can be heard all the time. Is there a way in Vista?

Rep + For All help.

Many Thanks In Advance

get a Y cable. on the female end had teh red/white for sound. and on the male end get the Headphone size(3mm?). Hook-up the standard red/white and plug the other end into the line in on your audio. This is not the Microphone port. Usually the line in port is a light blue color. I did this for a while until i got an HD TV. sad to say that at the time my monitor was better than my tv. But the above setup worked for me without an issue, and i was running vista as well
gl and reply if u have any more questions.

I am assuming you use a vga cable with 2 rca plugs on it. If so, just use this cable:

i have a y cord that is 2 female rca's on one end and a headphone jack on the other. i put it into my mic jack on the back of my mobo. in control panel>sounds and audio look into voice settings and see if mic volume is unmuted and set it up properly. i can have my 360 playing music and windows at the same time.

its this cable...

http://www.game.co.uk/Xbox360/Hardwa...360-VGA-Cable/

which then goes into this adaptor

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Gold-3-5mm-Ste...QQcmdZViewItem

could it be that my usb mic is the default for msn and css and stuff and it tries to play that not the line in?

so is there a way to enable the sounds to be played without needing a program to be recording on that port/line in?
