the 8800GT is a better deal, its about $30 more, which isnt alot more money, but it performs noticeably better. I bought mine for like $270 + s/h at launch and it was worth it

You can have a very affordable SLI rig with good performance with either card really. The 9600 is obviously the better price/performance of the two. I personally haven't owned a 9600 but have heard good/bad stuff about it. Same goes for any other card in the market.

I had 2 7600GT's in SLI and it still sucked compared to 1 320mb 8800GTS

My heads perfectly fine. I have been with my GF for a few days now so lets keep it clean hahah

Lol Fan boy i wish. I go for performance/cost ratio ONLY
1) The 7800GT was more expensive than the 7600GT by a fair margin. The 7600GT pretty much captialized on the 6600GT's midrange performance success. It overclocked like a monster. The 7800GT wasn't even good. Only the 7900GT was and it came a lot after.

2) If you go for performance to cost ratio, then your recommendation should be the 9600GT.

I sense a 9600GT Vs 8800GT war coming up.

Actually, as others have stated previously, there is a comparison. The 9600GT performs very respectably for a midrange card. It's not rocket science to figure that an x800 series is better than an x600, but saying that they all suck is silly, especially when you consider the price-to-performance ratio.

theres a difference from being comfortable on high settings with good amount of FPS and being on high settings with an ok amount of FPS.

Level of performance goes 8800GT 256MB < 9600GT 512MB < 8800GT 512MB

(Source: Tom's Hardware)

The pricing is generally along that same order. So it basically comes down to how much you want to spend. I'd at least opt for a card with 512MB of VRAM, however. At any resolution/detail, current games usually benefit a good deal from ~512MB or more.

For the price of the 7600gt it was a awesome card. My brother still uses one and it still runs all his games on high with good FPS. And no crap a 8800gts is better then a 7600gt. I think everyone knows that. The 8800gts was/is also about $150-$200 more then a 7600gt. And the 7800 was more $ also. So saying all x600 cards are bad is a dumbass statement.

And another user joins the 9600GT team!
That makes a grand total of 2 members!
Anyways, I'd still get the 8800GT.
It's mostly a matter of opinion though.
