New build suggestions please.

Thread Starter
Let me first explain how most OC noobs do it-

1- Buy a bunch of overpriced, underpowered components
2- Log onto Overclock.net and ask you guys to rate his new "Leet gaming rig"
3- Have everybody laugh and point at his terrible choices
4- Get pissed off and never come back again

To bypass this phenomenon, I will ask you guys first about these choices and ask kindly for your input and suggestions BEFORE purchasing anything. Thank you.

This build is for a customer. He already has a Evga 8800GTS 640MB and would like to go SLI. The only two things that are pretty much set in stone are the video card, RAM, motherboard, HSF, and HDD. All of these components listed are at the correct price range for the amount he would like to spend on the build. The budget does not allow for a penny more, but if I can save him a buck or two, that would be great. I always try to do right by my customers, as I hope all of you do as well.

Video card- EVGA 8800GTS 640MB $194.99
RAM- G. Skill 4Gb (2x2GB) $84.99
Motherboard- MSI P6N Diamond 680i SLI $119.99
HSF- Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro $26.99
HDD- Seagate Barracuda 250GB SATA $79.99
Case- CM Centurion 5 $49.99
CPU- Core 2 Duo E8200 Wolfdale 2.66GHz $184.99

Total= $806.93

Also, if anyone knows where I can get the cheapest Vista Home I would appreciate a link. I need a copy for him and a few more for other budget builds.

Thanks all.

PSU? I'd say a 520HX would be sufficient.

Cheaper and gets a better OC too

I have a PSU left over from a previous build (brand new) but I am open to suggestions. I think I need an 8-pin CPU, correct?

Yeah, I have seen that around for that price. It is amazing how quickly the price dropped on Vista.
If I remember right, XP took two years to really start coming down.

some not so good choices. for CPU, get the e8400 for like $14 more

for GPU, either get the 8800GT 512 or 8800GTS 512. the 8800GTS 640 is worse than both and costs more than the 8800GT 512.
instead of that MOBO get a 750i. incase you ever want to upgrade to a 45nm quad (q9xxx) that mobo wont work.
For the HDD, I'd say get a Seagate 750GB 7200.11. its $130
everything else is good.

EDIT: FOR OS, get Vista Home Premium x64 OEM (to take advantage of 4GB RAM) SP1

OK. A good 550W PSU with 2x 6 pin should be fine.
