Best waterblock for 8800 GTS 512 in SLI single slot

Thread Starter
Hey everyone,

I've got two 8800 GTS cards (G92) that I'm planning on water-cooling and running in SLI. I'd like to choose waterblocks so each card only takes up one slot, as I need 1 PCI slot for my sound card and the other is covered by a HR-05 SLI on the south bridge.

First, should I be looking for a full cover block or a GPU-only block and RAMsinks? Is there a significant performance difference in these? I'll also be doing volt mods on the gpu and memory, so there will be some extra heat to deal with.

Second, specifically which waterblocks fit the new G92s and perform well? I've done a bit of searching around but have had trouble finding quantitative comparisons or enough info. Thanks a lot, and +rep for any help!

No real perfroamce between full coverage and GPU core only, so its up to you. I dont know much about waterblocks, but I've heard good stuff about this one

May experienced watercoolers (I am not one) Will tell you that it is best to go GPU water only, and just get some RAMsinks. Reason: You don't necessarily want RAM heat being dumped into your water loop! Instead it is suggested to just get a separate fan and use this to cool the RAM, which is also good enough cooling.

I prefer the look of full cover blocks because its cleaner/easier to install (arguable? lol...) The last time I tried watercooling though.... I had to reseat the block several times due to RAM not touching the block properly, and if these blocks are over-tightened, you risk demolishing your babies video card...

Its your preference of budget really - Can you afford the massive full-cover block? Can you afford to have extra heat in your loop? Can you be delicate with installation?

If you answer no to any of those - I suggest going with a GPU bock and RAMsinks just because it is probably safer and cheaper..

Go with the GPU only blocks. The Maze5 and MCW60 are the best single blocks out there right now, so either one will do. Get some ramsinks to cover the RAM and voltage regulators.
