OK now that I have batted around whether or not I want a E8400 or not, I have decided to get a quad. Now the question is which quad? Q6600 or Q9300. I realize that there are slight differences...but I seen in a couple of reviews that the Q6600 @ 3.6ghz will match the performance of the Q9300 @ 3.5ghz.....any others have any insight on this?

one big problem. many have had a hard time getting above 440-450fsb which puts it at around 3300-3375 unless you get lucky and have a decent board that can do a little more. to even get 3.5ghz you would need to bump up to 466mhz FSB. one the big advantages also with the newer 45nm's is the larger cache. the q9300 doesn't have that larger cache either.

all in all I say q6600 so far. unless they are comming out with boards that can clock the FSB very high on a quad

According to MaxiumPC's last review the 93 in better in 3 out 5 catagories,specs/overclocking/performance.And they pick as the overall better quad.I guess this would depend on the board your using also.

EDIT: I would personally go with the q66(obviously).

Here a review on the q9300 from x-bit labs, it took them 1.3875 real vcore to reach 3507mhz. 467x7.5=3507

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu...d-q9300_6.html

max vcore intel recommends is 1.3625

but most q6600/q6700 can go that fast and it has slightly more cache.
