I'm still not sure about age of conan because from what i've seen Warhammer online looks much better.
lol..WOW was the only game I literally feel asleep playing it. Stopped at lvl 23. "Go kill 20 Boars" turn in to get another quest "Go kill 10 Boars"......and again and again......I've played some of my friends lvl 70 characters to go gank noobz. thats the only fun part of the game.

I'll be playing Age of Conan with some Guild Wars guildies. What always matters the most to me is who you play with. Playing with a group of friends always makes the MMO experience better.

This MMO isn't going to be catered to everyone, unlike WoW. The reason WoW got so popular was because of how straight forward of an MMO it was, advertising, and a kiddy appearance for those players under 10. It catered to a mass variety of players, as did Guild Wars (aside being free-to-play). Games like Lineage, EQ, FFXI, ect. cater to a less broader group. Think of why the Wii is outselling the PS3 and 360, bigger target audience. So I don't expect AoC sales to fly through the roof, but it will satisfy a certain majority... until Warhammer and Aion that is.

Shadowbane PvP was pretty harsh, when you stepped out of the NPC cities, you had to be on your guard FOR REAL! If you died, you felt it. In AoC you just kinda respawn. In RPG's like this (if I am going to dedicate serious time to one) I want to feel an attachement to my pixels man. And being slaughtered in 5 seconds in AoC combat and then just respawning is not really my cup of tea. You also lost items in your backpack in Shadowbane. You could build your own cities in Shadowbane and attack others player created cities. The game had flaws, don't get me wrong, but overall the political climate, the character creation, and the amazing PvP have all showed me what "I" like about RPG's.

The biggest thing I liked about Shadowbane was I felt like you had all the tools to survive and fight again another day, or to avoid combat if needed. If you were good at the game, a solo player could really be a viable alternative play style as well. Yes it is only natural that you may affiliate yourself with a guild, but you could certainly play the game quite well solo. Of course you couldn't take out whole groups of people but, you could certainly have some amazing fights, cat-and-mouse with rogues and groups trying to XP. The classes were unique and interesting. Lots of races.

BAH!!! I guess I just want Shadowbane v2.0 :`(.

Anyway, I did find the AoC Open Beta semi-enjoyable after they released the "miracle patch", but still I could tell it wasn't going to be something I was interested in from what I could play of it.

I did have fun in the Arenas, etc. I don't want to bash this game, because it doesn't deserve to be bashed. It will be a good game, you guys that are into it are probably going to love it!
If you want to play a game that you want to throw your screen out the window after you die...you'll enjoy Lineage 2. The PvP in that game is very similarly brutal. (PM if you want some info on how to play a better Lineage 2 *cough*)

I played SB as well...and quite enjoyed it...and yes...you felt it if you got your items stolen, but you could always get back up on your feet. The slide show that was guild vs guild combat made me drop that game. I still enjoyed silencing healers then ripping them apart...so much fun watching a group fall when they realize their healer was just mutilated.

The PvP servers in AoC remind me of the DAOC Mordred server. You could kill anyone outside a central city...and dieing costed you a bit of gold (added up quick, trust me...people could rarely make it far because they would run out of money and would have to re-roll). Overall, it's still brutal. I can't wait!

EDIT: Our guild is rolling on Bane BTW. I'll post here when I figure out what my name is. A leader is logging on the second EA strats--is rushing to 20--and creating a guild called <Reign>. (It's been a guild name we've been stuck to for a while)
