the xtreme gamer is an X-fi card in name only. it is the most crippled version of the card, and imo is not worth it at all. It is a step up from the xtreme Audio, which is an Audigy card with a different sticker, but it doesn't really have any of the same guts of the real X-fi cards.

I would say go for one of these combos on newegg
X-Fi Combo
It doesn't come out and say it, but i think it is one of the high end fatality cards (those are the only ones with the LED box on the top) and it comes with some decent headphones for the price of just an Xtreme Gamer.

I have x-540 and I absolutely love them. They shake my house and are still crisp and clear. Serious power and quality for the $70 that they cost me. 5.1 FTW! baby!!!

honestly i think its all about the sound card and not to go overboard with either one because having a really high end sound card and some low end speakers isn't going to be doing much. I need to find the balance between the two.

You're wrong about that man. The Xtreme Gamer is a true X-Fi card. The Xtreme Audio is the "X-Fi' that's really a re-branded audigy. The Xtreme Gamer and Xtreme Music are nearly the same, with the Xtreme music being a bit better, and moddable.

Ok man, let me help you out here
If you have vista, it's best not to get creative products.

Oops. I realized that this morning when I woke up.

OT: Vista and creative really aren't that bad a partnership. It took about 6 months to get a working driver after release but it all works fine now. I've had no issues with my X-Fi under Vista x64. Some people have had bad luck, but the bottom line is that the X-Fi's do work in Vista. The whole fiasco with daniel_k really revolved around crippled Audigy drivers. If the price is right, I'd say pick up that fatility combo and don't look back. You'll be happy with it.

2300's for the win.

My bro just picked up the X-540s and I was surprised how good the sounded when paired up with my old X-fi XtremeAudio. He was using some cheap ****ty 5.1 set that came with his pre-built rig.
I don't know about the the other sets of speakers, but the 540s are worth the price.
