Is a quad worth it? - Page 7

Oh i just wondered how they compared to a normal Intel Quad or Duel
post #62 of 66
I have 0 Facts on it. However I would have thought the PS3 would give a Quad a run for its money for sure when it comes to RAW calculation power...it would certainy destroy a Dual core I would have thought. However to compare would be unfair as the architecture difference is so large.

Lol so if you overclock a Q6600 to 3 ghz it will be as fast as a E8400 but you still have 2 cores left that you can assign to other programs?

Essentially yes. I am unaware of the stock clocks on the E8400 but if it is 3GHZ then yes.

I don't think it's really fair to compare the Cell to a desktop CPU cause the different architecture as you pointed out.

I do have 1 fact to add though, my PS3 absolutely WIPES THE FLOOR with my quad when it comes to folding, it's not even close.

This thread made up my mind....no Q6600 for me....I will wait till the 45nm Quads are a bit lower priced when Nelahem comes out....something like a Q9650 should suit me nicely....
