Oh come on guys, get off my back
I sort of attacked it with the tin snips when I got the idea then realized mid-way through that I had full access to all of my technical high school's equipment

The first try is always rough... I'm sure someone will revise this idea and make it look a lot prettier

I didn't mean to come off as being negative, it just made me laugh. Its butted up against your cpu cooler anyways so you really can't see it. I don't know how thick those fins are, if they are thick enough you might be able to grind them down to smooth. But if they are really thin its just a side effect of doing this.

Haha thanks for all the responses guys... I'll probably be trying to pretty this danged thing up in the next few days... try to straighten out those fins and make this thing not look so "run over"

But it has that smack of DIY to it, it has personality, like that chick you sister wants to hook you up with all the time. "How's she look?" Sister responds "Well, she has a GREAT personality!"

Haha, great analogy!

Of course I've already hooked up with "her", and "trimming up the edges" and prettying her up doesn't make me a bad guy does it?

Neat idea! But, blowing downwards? I was always taught that heat rises.

Man thats brilliant work...i reckon a dremel should be able to do that quite neatly, but im guessing you didnt have one around..also how heavy is the ac7?..it is bolted down right?, i couldnt make it out too well from the pics.

I had a dremel with a cutting wheel... tried it at first but was taking waaay too long and wasn't very effective...

the AC64 (939 that I used) or AC7 (775) weigh in @ 520G w/ the fan
The retention bracket that I made holds it on nicely... no wiggling
The 22C on the chipset also suggests that it's on there decently (though I might have overdone it on the thermal paste)
