I am trying to make you understand that it is not the VID before several hundred people come into this thread and verbally rape you with science.

LOL i have to comment also...
because it was a post of assumption without researching.

Pwned

1.35 on most of the chip boxes are intel's rated volts for stock frequencies.
Recommended to be the highest Intel will place on the chip for stock.

Does anyone know if the VID range for the Q6600's is the same as for the Q6700?

My last Q6600 was 1.325 (or the highest they make) ... but this new Q6700 is 1.275. Do the Q6700's max out at 1.325 too?

Is the vid even displayed on the front of the chip? You might be able to tell if you know the batch number from the face of the chip.

I believe the lower VIDs go to the Q6700 because they are clocked higher. THey are the same chip so the Q6700 should have a max VID of 1.325

The only way to tell the VID is connect it to you board and hope for the best.

The Voltage ID (i.e. VID) is a part of the chips microcode (µCode) that's given to it after testing at the manufacturing facility. The voltage range you see on the box is the voltage spec, i.e. the recommended voltage ranges for that particular processor line. The VID is always a specified value from within that range, but it may or may not be the maximum.

Even the same batch have different VIDs. I have the exact same batch as someone over at xtremesystems.org but his VID is 1.2000v while mine is 1.2125v. With more info, we may find that the same batch may have a close VID but for now, who knows.
