Did you already shutdown the virtual machine?? If not then that may be why, or did you just install and not even run a virtual machine?

I know it didn't really effect my shutdown any, maybe 2 dec added to desktop start but nothing noticeable(I could still open anything up I wanted to while it was finishing loading everything up).

Well I know I see a 2 min decrease in time/%, just using SMP on Win I was at 11min 20sec/% and with VMware I am at 9mingive or take 12 sec/%.
I've even seen a couple % complete in the mid 8 min area.

I think it would help alot and improve our team output by either running a LiveCD or by using VMWare. What do you guys think?

I had tried running that Ubuntu 64-bit virtual machine that Bal3wolf made available, but since I don't have virtualization support on my CPU, it didn't work. So I deleted that and then when I noticed my shutdown speed had degraded quite a bit after installing VMWare, I uninstalled VMWare Server. Though it is still taking a while to shut down.

But I've also installed other things in the same time, so maybe something else is contributing to the speed decrease. I'm not sure. I've also noticed warnings in my event log about my memory running out. This is probably because I only have 1GB, which is one reason why I'm so anxious for my RAM to get here.

Oh well. I'll probably end up using VMWare and Ubuntu for folding once I do a clean install of Vista x64. If that still slows stuff down, I may just end up trying out that new Ubuntu "Wubi" installer which allows you to install Ubuntu into the Windows partition. Though this might be a bit of an annoyance to have to reboot my PC every time I wanted to play a game or fold.

Yea I can't wait till ya get that E6600 and that Ram. You should notice a nice little difference. Vista really does need at least 2GB to fully reach it's potential, and at a faster speed.

BTW, Lemans, you wanna update the op with me runnig VMware+Ubuntu1.4 @ 4.0GHz.

I don't think I can hit 4ghz at a safe long term voltage, for folding. I mean I can go up to 1.4v but 1.36v is supposed to be the max. I start having issues just over 3.9ghz. But there is still tons of tweaking to do. I updated your stats rx7. I am on track to finish a work unit in 20 minutes then we shall see what comes next I am currently at 2028 ppd in fahmon.

If you switch to VMWare you should get some killer times, what are you getting right now anyway??

Yea, you've got to watch the voltages with the 45nm's. That's why I decided to go with the E6750(and I only saved 50 bucks goin that route), almost got the E8400 but didn't like what I was hearing about voltages. Yes it makes since though, smaller die so electromigration happens quicker and at lower voltages.

Well anyway I hope you get it all tweaked out and that Blood Iron can handle it. I would love to see you get to 4.0GHz stable, but 3.9GHz will do just fine

All I know is ppd, which is still going up as I test and run faster, currently I am at 2056ppd. I am running 3.87ghz.

Ok if I take a shot at that vmware, what are the odds **** is going to go wrong? Generally things go bad quickly I would hate to lose where I am at, how much gain is it going to give me?

If you set it up right then nothing should go wrong as long as your oc is 100% stable. I got my rig 100% stable at 4.0GHz and have no problems at all but if you are not 100% stable VMWare+Ubuntu will show you.

If you dod want to try it go ahead and download the VMWare Server 1.05 and the Ubuntu 1.4 . Wait till you finish that WU you are doing don't stop in the middle of it. Then just fire up VMWare and start the virtual machine.

Once you get started if ya any questions just hit me up but PHALENJKELL VMWare+Ubuntu guide pretty much covers all. The only issue is with 64-bit Vista you have to disable Driver Signing or it won't run prooperly.

And I take it you are just looking at Fahmon not at the SMP console aye. Either way 2k ppd isn't bad at all.

I got to admit rx7racer is setting the pace for the team (man that E6750 at 4.0GHz is tuff to keep up with)
